Can somebody explain horse vaccinations to me please?

Because the vaccine does not have a finite life span, and therefore needs to be boosted to prolong it.

Bit like a 'use by' date.

I can understand that, but for other animals it doesn't seem to be so set in stone when the next injection must be, for example "your dog's booster is due in June" & I know that immunity isn't guaranteed forever from any vaccination & that's why they need boosters, but I don't get why it has to be to the exact date with horses.

The date is because of Competition/Racing/FEI rules (FEI -vaccinate every 6 months)
