Hi everyone,

So I'm pretty much a polo player througought the summer but the season ends in a couple of weeks and I'd really like to sort a day cub hunting within the next few weeks, just get a taste of what it's like. I'm comfortable at all paces except I don't jump (never been taught to). I'll also need to hire a horse from someone as I don't have a sutiable stead.

I'm based in Leicestershire/Warwickshire.

Thanks!:)

start by looking at the MFHA website to find your local pack - then ring their Hon Sec who will be able to tell you when they start (if they haven't already), and who to contact for hirelings in the area!

Dont worry about jumping - there are a lot of people who don't jump, or who pick and choose fences so there will be someone to take you round! Very often hunts don't jump as much (or even at all) during Autumn hunting.

then, make sure you're appropriately kitted out, and prepared for early morning starts! A tweed jacket and coloured stock or tie is perfect, with cream/beige jods, and black or brown long boots. black or navy velvet hat or covered skull cap is ideal.

and then report back once you've had a day and let us know how you got on! :D

hope you manage to get something sorted!

Going to ring the Quorn tomorrow;) Btw, during Autumn hunting they don't dig out fox cubs or anything like that? I don't want to see anything like that!!!

no, it's just about teaching young hounds and young/novice horses and riders. It's usually a lovely hack interspersed with a bit of hanging about along field edges.

when you speak to the secretary mention that you've not been before and they may well pair you up with someone who can teach you what's going on. Hunting folk are pretty friendly and informative when you're making an effort to understand!
