can someone please tell me what horse i need. i'm 6'3 and need a horse for hunting, jumping and hacking. what breed, sex and size do i need? thanks!

markyt - what a bizarre question. If you ride well enough to hunt and jump then you surely know the size of the horses you have been riding? That is a 'how long is a piece of string' kind of question.

Breed and sex are immaterial by the way.

Depends on a thousand and one things- mainly what hunting you have- are you with a fast grassland pack, a pack with lots of plough, a moorland type pack? Different breeds stand up better to different country. A Tb type would do you better with say the Bicester, but you'd need a more solid type for the Puckeridge.

A favorite breed combo for me would be IDxTB- some are chunkier than others, and most would suit most country.

Secondly, it depends how big you are, weight wise- if you're very slim, the option for a slighter built horse is there.

Also I wouldn't say sex comes into it- though some mares require more patience, but there's exceptions to every rule, and I for one love a good mare.

Still, a bit of an odd question....

Even the height aspect of this question is difficult as some horses "take up your leg" better than others. I ride a 17hh shire horse regularly and I'm only 5ft 6 yet we look perfectly in proportion, even my headcoachwoman said we look made for each other. Weight is the only questions that matters in my opinion in the slightest.

The easy answer is a ID/TB of whatever % you want at around 16.2hh. If your not too experienced i'd be inclined to recomend a gelding but there are exceptions to ever rule

I agree with the suggestion of an ID. I am thinking of buying one and have done a lot of research into their conformation, temperament, capabilities, etc. They are really good horses and will take you far as far as I can see. They also seem to have good legs with good bone, so would be able to carry the weight that comes with being as tall as you are

Sex is pretty much irrelevant apart from the fact that geldings are far more agreeable..I have a mare and when she's in season it can be very difficult to get her to listen to anything in the school but as soon as you take her on a hack she is a little angel - most of the time

As for size, anything 16.2hh + would probably be great. I love big horses (despite having a 14.1hh midget LOL) so I think you could get on well with any big horse

Good Luck x x
