time to renew the policy fee..............122 pa
1500 for death
1000 for vet fees excess £115
public liability 1 million

or bhs membership for 53 which i get 10 million public liability

so pony is a lawn mower, happy a bit arthritic but 29 ish in years. i would treat injury as in cuts that need to be stitched and colic etc

but personally i would not treat in the sense of anything that requires excessive box rest, he is stiff already and it would not be quality of life for him, also i would not operate for colic for the same reason. or cussions for the same reason.
i know some people out there would do these things, i have had this pony 23 years and for me its his quality of life.

so back to the question who would go for the insurance or who would go for the bhs route

the insurance have removed disposal of the policy and i would have to pay for that and there is no death from illness cover etc

open to suggestions...........................

I would save your money. You'll only ever make a claim for a small amount - and imo that is not what insurance is for.

At 29 if anything goes wrong it will probably be off to horsey heaven.....

I would not even think about insuring - there is so little you could claim on and by the time you've paid the exess it probably ends up costing you more than just paying the vets bill for any minor injuries that it would be sensible to treat

I would get some PL insurance but wouldn't worry about the rest really. Check what PL cover you get under you home insurance (if you have that) as quite often this will be adequate to cover the horse.

that was what i was thinking, also having the bhs route means the public liability extends to the other pony and i could get this taken of her insurance so taking that premium down as well.

i am glad i am not the only one that would not treat for excessive vet

I have Cairo just insured for PL and any rider - he is 22 and never been accident prone, just likes to have expensive cancer treatment every three years which no one would cover.
