Hello *waves and offers coffee cake*

I hope you are sitting down ;)

I am wondering (and dont read anything into this!) what are the average costs of the following;
* Hay
* Shavings or good wuality straw
* good turnout rug for all weathers

Also, what would be the average cost for part livery in kent :)

Many thanks!

I am in the Midlands so the prices may be different in your area:

Small bale hay : £3.50-£4.00 (you can pay more but this is what most will pay)
Large rounf haylage : £30-£35 per bale
Shavings: Dust free from around £6.00 - £8.00 per bale depending on which make

Turnout rug: How long is a piece of string you can pay £35 - £200 depending on make, wether it's a combo or separate neck cover, weight of filling etc.

My girl is similar size to D, and I pay roughly per month:
Two round bales of hay from the local farmer - shared between my girl and MileaMinute's pony - £30 each bale, two per month, so obviously comes to £30 each. They pretty much have ad lib and my girl is a guzzler.

Shavings around two bales per week at £8 = £32

Rug, well - how long is a piece of string - depends on the quality and price you want to pay for it. I always buy from sales ie Robbie's/Derby House/Equestrian Clearance - whenever I come across a decent deal.

Not in your area so prices will vary.

Large haylage bale - £35.
Straw - half a bale for £12.50
Good quality turnout - £100-£160ish. I love Weatherbeeta :)

I've never had to work out these prices before as always been on full livery, however, looking into my option atm.

Rug wise, tempts to invest in two good rugs and hope they last :D shes not a rug traser (thank god!). Here's hoping her coat will grow through properly soon :).

I'm in Kent, pay £45 pw for assisted DIY on an amazing yard, £30 for a massive round bale of straw which lasts me a month with Leo, he has a big bed every day, and we pay £4.00 a bale for hay at the mo, um and Leo has a hw t/o weatherbeeta which is lovely but it has to be really cold for him to wear it or he sweats under it! Not that breathable, his shires medium weight is lovely tho, got that second hand from a friend :)

Thank you :D I cant do assisted DIY as i work FT, but i miss being so involved w/ dee and now shes semi-retired, i just can no longer justify the costs of full livery. :(

Plus, i miss the bonding, the mucking out etc. :(

I'm Surrey-
£45 big bale hayledge or hay
£8 good quality shavings
Rugs I always stick to what fits best and that's bucas
Part livery is £500+ for a decent yard, however I'm in the same boat as you work wise but I could never be anything other than DIY nobody looks after my boy better than me!

Good luck with the options.

£500 pcm is rather a lot - but just so i have an understanding, what facilities does this come with?

Dee cant have haylege but can have hay and will be out at grass for long period of the day which will cut down her hay intake.
Shavings again is very similar price in this area.
Buca rugs are good, i find JHL fit her really well :)

I miss being hands on :( i came to the conclusion a few days ago i was really unhappy being a hands off owner now :(
