I know that this is a typically blonde question from me, but have never used gadgets before. What are the uses for these items, how are they best used etc. Sorry and thanks
the chambon and the de gogue are similar and different! The de gogue is only for use on the lunge and encourages the top-line to stretch forward and down, and then, because it runs through the bit and back onto the 'martigale like bit',also encourages the nose not to poke and increases the 'roundness' over the back. The good thing is the horse teaches its self to look forward and down in a relaxed way for this stretch and there is nothing to lean on. i use this on tight horse those that tend to hollow and run. I try and make sure that i concentrate then on the rhythm, keeping it steady and constant and lots of transitions.
The chambon can apparently be ridden in ,i never have. I tend to use the chambon on younger horses that i just want to stretch down and forward, it only attaches to the bit and does not bring the nose on to the vertical it just uses a bit of poll pressure to encourage the horse to seek the contact forward. Both are good devises for lunging. Although now i tend to use the Pessoa more as it makes sure that as well as th stretch you keep the hind legs stepping through.
Hope that helps
