Can someone recommend me a good riding school?

I have been out of the saddle for 18months (at least) since the workload and studyload became to much to squeeze it all in... however, I have a big exam in 2 weeks and my final exam in June and thoughts are turning to getting back in the saddle. And I am excited :D

I rode for 8 years at a riding school and then had to give it up due to not having transport. I got back in the saddle at university and was part of the equestrian team (how I do not know?!), and rode for a further 4 years. I then had to give it up as above.

I'm looking for a decent, friendly riding school, where I can get back in the saddle and which may offer some small comps that I can possibly borrow a RS horse and have a go. Another important factor, is that (hopefully) in 2/3 years is that I'll be in a position to finally buy a horse, so if possible, somewhere that would allow me to help/tutor me on stable management and the like. I did used to help out at my old old RS, the basic knowledge is there somewhere but needs digging out and very rusty!

I'm in Teesside and Tyneside (long story) and can travel to either or in between :)

Thank you for reading and I promise to post pictures of when it occurs!

My sister lives in Sunderland and used penshaw. They have quite good facilities and do comps. Might be worth looking at there Web site. I'm sure Durham has a good equestrian centre but can't think of what it's called! Good luck though, i'm back riding after a long break and looking to buy pretty soon :-)

I'm afraid I live about 3/4 hours south of you so can't really recommend any! You might find you attract more useful people by putting your area in the title :)

Did you compete in BUCS at university? I start at Durham in October and am hoping to join the riding team, just wondering what your experiences were?

Hope you find somewhere nice and good luck with the horse search, hopefully it wont be too long before your introducing your new steed :)

Bucs has changed a bit since I did it, you pick your horse to ride out of a hat for dressage and jumping now, in my day you could choose a horse as long as each of the horses were ridden by the team. The dressage for the leagues is quite straight forward, if you get into regionals and nationals it gets tougher, the jumping is also quite "fun". You get some interesting horses to ride, and a 5min warmup before jumping or doing your bit. Great fun, but don't expect all the other teams to be friendly lol!

Ps: can I change the title of this thread or would it be better to start another?!

Ah ok, I think I'll definately give it a go, it sounds pretty fun :)
I don't think you can change the title (or at least I've never worked out how to!) Maybe see if you get any replies on this one and if not post another?

Oh def give it a go it's an experience... But I was pretty crap, some amazing riders. I only got placed in dressage once, then lost my way round the jumping course and got disqualified... That was a personal highlight lol!

Thank you Jess :)
