Im stuck...cant find a horse to hire in my area and there are some brill hunts....
I havent been before, my horse is prob too slow and also not fit, doesnt jump really as I am re-training him and I just want to have some fun on a horse that can jump and gallop :0)
Wondering if anyone would allow me to come with them...I dont mind travelling as it would be a real pleasure for me....
any help much appreciated.....

No horse to offer you... but I want to go hunting too! I've never been and am a total wuss when it comes to jumping, but I reckon it'd be good for me to go out as I'd probably be brave enough to jump things then! aaaaaahhhhhh I want to huuuuunt! Should have taken my horse last season when she was still allowed to jump as she's meant to be a good hunter!

well apparently in your area you can loan out horses that are fit and used to hunting but I just cant find one....Im stuck....cant exactly run along the side of a hunt really just to get the vibe can you...!!
My horse would either over do it and become lame...he was flying around the field today just because the farmer had put some cows in the field on the horizon so I think he is too immature too....I would prob end up going over 6ft jumps due to his excitment...!!
Good luck...hope you find someone to take you...if you do..let me know ;0) then I can bug em...:0)

Really? I never knew you could do that... now I'm very interested in trying to find a horse! ooooooohhhhhh excited (so excited that I'm hogging all the letters again...!) maybe I'll have to ask my hunting friends about that!

I do have one horse I could hunt, but I've not officially been given the ride on her yet let alone allowed to jump her over a cross pole. By the time I get the courage up to ask her owner, the season will be over!
By the way your name thingy on the left says you're in the south, whereabouts? What hunts are you looking at riding with? I'm also in the south

brill....im stuck in berkshire/hampshire/wiltshire/oxfordshire area....yep something about a huntling...I think thats what it is called....they are advertised normally through riding yards....
Yer I think the jumping will be fine...I got over my fear when my friend let me ride her ex-racer who hunted and he just decided to jump a hedge...I was completely unaware as the wind was blowing 1000 miles an hr and I couldnt really see...my verdict...just go with the flow....and hold on bl**dy tight.....just close your eyes and squeeze with your legs...im sure jumping huge walls and hedges cant be too bad....can it...?? hehehe

looked at drag hunting in oxfordshire, hampshire and berkshire...but only really found one in oxfordshire and they dont have any local horses to hire...my hubby says he will pay for it for a xmas present as I really wanna go....havent done anything brave with horse jump wise for a while really and really want to go :0(

Will get the number for you tomorrow as it is in my diary at the yard. OBH isn't a huge jumping hunt or thrusters, so I would say it would be prefect for a first time out. I will get back to you tomorrow and if I do not then PM me as I am usually rushing about like a mad thing LOL!

P was used as a hireling a few times a couple of years back - she is an awesome hunter! I suppose it has passed you by as maybe you don't read hunt reports? H&H hunt repors ALWAYS list a hireling contact in the info box at the end of the report!

Nice thing about getting a hireling from a decent person is that you go out knowing the horse will be happy to cross the country you are covering and will jump whatever it is faced with - it is a nice feeling to be able to have confidence in the horse, especially the first time!

thanks thats really nice of you ;0) much appreicated and you never know...I might just do that...although I would prob end up moving in...hunting kennels!!! dogs and horses...heaven!!

thanks weezy for the info...good to know...I do like a confident horse....makes it so much more enjoyable....P looks a strong sort...I bet she was great...love hunting horses :0)

great thank you :0) I would love to come down...Ill try out with weezy first, see if I can hang on and then give you a shout in the new year....I would really enjoy coming down....
thanks very much....

Weezy - that would be the thing that would worry me about hirelings, it takes a lot for me to have confidence in any horse let alone one that I have to jump (even more so hunt!) I'd just have to hope I could find a suitably donkified horse! Dammit I should have taken Maiden last season!

Hey Herringbone...if you get the bug maybe we can get Icemaiden to put the both of us up and we can share the drive down

yep know what you mean there silmarillion but when you are riding a horse that knows what it is doing its kinda like an experienced worker showing you the ropes....I dont think they would be out of control of take things too over the top...they would just jump when they need to, gallop when they are meant to and look after you....I love riding horses that know what they are doing because you can trust them more....maybe have a little jump and ride around on the horse before you go out on them....im sure a donkeyfied horse could be found....jumping isnt for everyone and i can see why it is a worrying concept...i too am a little scared...just hold on...superglue comes in handy I hear...:0)
