my gelding has been very naughty the last week,
on monday morning he escaped from his field and got in with the only mare we have on the yard, she is very opinunated and owns the yard

, a horse only had to look at her and she slaps her ears back and snorts and puffs at them

so my electric fencer is off to be mended so over night i put him in his sand paddock. and he greeted the yard owner at the gate! and he had clearly been over by the mare again. he is really obsessed with her and screams across the field to her constantly. she is not in season and i dont understand why he is being such a pain. he is pacing the fence which isnt doing his weight any good and is generally restless. its like having a stallion on the other side of the field when he calls to her! do u think its normal and will pass??
cookies if you manage to read it!

Yes!! Was he late cut by any chance? A friend of mine had a gelding that was late cut and this spring started showing really "riggy" behaviour. Ended up getting something to add to his feed (I think Horse Health) do products, to try and level out his testosterone (sp) levels and it helped.

i dont know when he was cut. he was a racehorse untill he was 4 years old, and his old owners got him at 5 years old and he was a gelding. he does have a sticker over his pasport thought with the details of him as a gelding so maybe he was?

As a racehorse, he was probably cut late as they start racing as entire males as obv if they are successful they are later kept for breeding! and obviously they need their balls to achieve this!

So it is unlikely to be a serious health problem, just a result of havin a pair a bit too late in life!

as others have said you can get supplements to help level everything out, Id check with your vet for ideas.

Another suggestion could be he is a cryptorchid which is where one testicle is still there just internally!!!

Mine is like that he was cut late there was brought out a product called stroppy gelding equivalent of stroppy mare for gelding and it made a difference to my horse now you can't get it anywhere

I have a very riggy boy, two weeks on the rig calm and he's a different horse. Still grumpy, but not interested in the girls at all.
