the paddock that im resting for prince is filled with buttercups. he doesnt eat them but theres more buttercups than grass! i read a thread on here ages ago that it was something to do with the PH of the ground and you can put something on it to get rid of it??

I posted last week about buttercups. My paddock sounds similar to you more b/c than grass. General consensus was that they are very difficult to get rid of. Some had limed to alkaline the soil, but had not helped. Others had sprayed but had not made much difference. I spoke to a farmer and He said that I would be wasting my time spraying now that the flowers are out as it needs to be done when they are in the rosette stage. I am limited to what I can do as at a livery yard.

I am not sure what to do about them at this stage of the year, but obviously dont want to poison my horse, although he is not grazing them but must be taking up some as he is eating around them.

Any ideas?

im in the same problem being at a livery yard! i might speak to a couple of farmer friends and see what they suggest for next summer, it was the same last year to!

The spray you need is called 'Mirkan'. You can only spray once in any growing season, so you are best to use it mid/late Spetember one year, then late April/ early May the followeing year.

hi, i had my fields sprayed last year, were very bad, by a local farmer.i believe they have to be sprayed before they seed.weedkiller is absorbed through the leaf. had to keep horses away for fourteen days. this year hardly any at all just the edges which he advised to hand spray this year and respray fields next year ,due to adjoining fields not being done. which are full of them.:):)

Yes you can spray them but I think the horses need to be off it, I have loads but never had a problem with them.
