Can you call livery yard owners on weekends?

Or is that rude? I don't really know the etiquette. Not now obviously! Just that it is 'weekend' until Tuesday now and I am not a patient person!

Of course you can, if its a reasonable time. I wouldn't call tonight or tomorrow morning, or after 9pm generally unless its an emergency, but other than that I wouldn't think twice. (Then again I have my own yard, but wouldn't have minded my liveries ringing when I had them).

It would depend on the query and the type of yard and the livery yard owner :)

If DIY with a owner who you don't see at the weekend ever and it was about something little and insignificant no.

Full livery or 5/2 yes as long as it was 'business hours' and something reasonably important yes. I suppose it depends if it is their 'weekend' as well, if I know my YO is doing family stuff etc I don't but if she is 'working' or 'horsing' I do.

No help at all I am afraid :)

Yes... my YO lives on site and is always around. She's on the yard all day mot days (except her days off). Can ring office as there's nearly always someone around. We're on a RS/livery yard so there's always someone to pick up! They're pretty good at listening to answer phone messages too :)

Not my yard! I want to move yard so potential business for them?

I know the rules for calling my own YM but have no idea how it works in re making enquiries about spaces etc

Can you email them? If not I probably wouldn't call until Monday now only because it's New Year. If it were a normal weekend, I don't see any problem with calling them during the day on a weekend.

I try not to bother my yo anyway unless i have a real problem - it would have to be really really huge for me to contact them tonight or any holiday day

Will probably leave it until Tuesday when it isn't holiday anymore. I don't know why I always decide to do these things when it's holidays! I've just ordered a load of stuff online that won't show up for ages too as it is bank holiday!

see, Ive had some you couldnt call at a weekend and some you could, so its a ard call to make...

Definately not tonight or tomorrow, that goes without saying.

What I would do, is ring them on the 2nd, see how they sound when they answer and if they sound narky and upset that youve bothered them, apologise and ring off without leaving your name :D

at our yard - arley moss equestrian - people hound the yard owner an all hours LOL , not sure if he is entirely happy with it though but he takes in good spirits.

however if it was an enquiry about a vacancy i would leave till after the weekend as some people might not be as accommodating.

I seem to get calls and texts at all hours, every day of the year  I've just had one from a client on holiday in Lanzarotte, asking after her horse

Personally I don't mind how early in the morning anyone rings, cos I'm usually up and on the yard anyway, but I don't like people ringing me after 9pm and usually let it go to answerphone, unless it's someone I like speaking to :)

If it was a new client I would think it a bit odd if they rang me tonight, but I wouldn't mind them ringing tomorrow during the daytime (when let's face it most YOs will be doing horses anyway) or anytime within reason on Monday.

I would say if you are shopping for a new yard I would ring tomorrow afternoon to see (4pm onwards so you don't disturb lunch :) ), it may be convenient for them to show you around on a bank holiday if it has part liveries etc as more people on DIY means more time.

Have emailed and she said call any time so will ring tomorrow.

Supplementary question- I don't think we'll move for a couple of months. Have to find a house (easy enough) and give notice on our flat. Is it weird to go and look round already?

I went to see my yard owner on Xmas eve about livery there! So I don't see a problem with calling tomorrow or today. Just call at a reasonable hour. At the end of the day you are a potential customer and could work full time so this could be the only time you have to arrange things lol

I don't think so. I went to look at a livery yard before I got my old man, as wanted to check facilities, costs etc. whilst being shown around by YM she introduced me to another livery - from whom I got old man Darco!

I'm not saying visit random livery yards trying to find Mr Right Horse! But for me, I'd like to make sure my horses needs were catered for before moving. Imagine moving to your dream home and then find there's nowhere suitable locally for the horses? Also some places have waiting lists... Always best to find out beforehand! Sorry for essay reply! ;)

Good luck!

Thanks DD. And what a stroke of luck :) I definitely don't want to find anymore horses on my travels though

I know she has spaces at the moment so hopefully she still will when we come to move, assuming I like it of course! That is exactly how I feel about it though. The horses are pretty high on my list of priorities and I'd hate to have to move them somewhere that wasn't right for them because I didn't look in to it properly!

Im a YO and I dont mind being called on holidays as long as it isnt silly hours just to chat, my mobile is always on 24/7 incase of emergencies, try sending her a text and then it is up to her to respond but I personally dont mind at all
