Say you took on a new pony and sent the passport off to the PIO and they told you 2 weeks for it to come back. Say your new pony needed her 2nd flu/tet in a very time-critical period and you had already made the appointment with the vet. Say the passport hadn't been received back after over 3 weeks and the vet visit was due in a few days time and you were worried about having the passport back in time. Say you rang the PIO and they said "Oh yes, the paperwork is now done and the passport will be going out tomorrow (a Friday)." Say you asked really politely that it be sent 1st class and before the last post on the Friday. Say they said yes, no problem. Say Saturday morning arrived and the passport wasn't in the post as you had hoped. Say you waited for the postman til 1pm on the Monday - vet due in the afternoon - and the passport STILL wasn't delivered. Say you waited in until the same time the next day because your YO had just rung to say your new rescued pony had a massively swollen eye and would probably need the vet. Say when the poxy postman finally arrived the passport STILL wasn't delivered and so you rang the PIO. Say you asked for the passport dept and the woman said oh I can help you. Say you told her the problem and she said oh I can't help you. You need another lady and she's off sick. Say you said, well can't you just look it up in the system and tell me it has DEFINITELY gone out. Say she said oh we don't keep records like that. Say you said to her, what! Even though passports are legal documents, the absence of which could lead to the owner incurring a £5,000 fine? Say she said oh I'll send the other woman an e-mail. Say you said, I thought you said she was off sick. Say the bloody woman says, yes, she is off sick. Say you said well what's the point of e-mailing her because I need to know NOW where my bloody passport is? Say you said, I sent it recorded delivery to exactly avoid this sort of cock up and if the passport was lost how would I have a record of everything up to that moment. Say she said oh we keep photocopies of the entire passport. Say you said oh you keep copies of the passport but no record of them being mailed out? Say you lost your rag at this point and said: Look, you made a promise that you patently failed to keep. This could mean I get fined £5,000 and/or my pony can't be treated. I have to go now because the vets are coming to see my pony though it's a moot point if they can treat her since YOU seem to have lost my passport, though you had it last Thursday. This is what I want you to do: by the close of business this afternoon, please ring my landline and leave a message explaining the status and whereabouts of my passport. Say you got home after 6pm, following an emergency vet visit (ned ok and illegally treated) and there was a voice message on your phone from what sounded like the "Team Manager" of the PIO saying "With reference to your conversation with Advisor this afternoon, please ring me".

What would YOU do? I want to have my passport dealt with by a firm that understand the most basic concepts of customer care and the legal implications of their role. Can I change PIOs???

With regard to the flu and tet vaccinations - I was in the same boat and my vet said it wasn't any problem and as soon as I received the passport she just added the vaccinations in from the record she kept.

Think you will have to speak to the Team Manager and see what they say. If it has been lost, they will have to sort out another one.

yeah, vaccinating without having the passport present isnt a maor issue. practices keep a record of the vaccine given, batch nmber expiry date and vet who administered it on their files.
As for the passpor issue i dont know tbh but im assuming they hve already taken payment by now if passport is meant to have been processed? so it may be difficult to get money back.
Personally if i were getting a passport in the UK i think Id apply for a weatherbys non-TB reg I think - a bit more profesional than mny of the other providers

I kept my 2's passports until they'd been microchipped and vaccinated (about 10 days) before sending them off for ownership changes. Has reminded me although sent in early December I've only had one of the two (different societies) back so far....

Yep you can change. We changed from some random leisure horse society thingy to get Roo's proper breed passport from the Scottish Sports Horse Society with all his breeding etc in it. What we had to do was tell the SSH that he already had a passport, once we had the DNA tests etc sorted we sent the original passport off with the new application and they contacted the original PIO to cancel that previous passport.

Pain in the bum though for you - but yes mine have had jabs before when forgotten passport that day and also never actually been asked for passport for other treatments (altho vets do obviously know my horses are passported)

You used to be able to do that in the early days, but now you are not allowed to and are stuck with your PIO.
As said, vaccination records can be added at a later date.
