As per earlier post re long boots for big boned calves, I am nearly able to get into my long boots again (YAY) but was wondering about getting some lovely leather half chaps and boots like the ariat sort of thing.

Can you wear these for showing and dressage? Or are long leather boots prefered? Do I have to eat lettuce for a few more weeks???

Leather Gaiters and boots are fine. I much prefer mine to my long boots. They need to match and look good together so suede half chaps do not cut it!

I use Ariat short boots and have some Italian leather half chaps that go well together.

Yes you can, as long as they look very like long boots when they're on (ie both the same colour and leather, well fitted) and are smart. If you were thinking of affiliating you might want to get some long boots (I'm getting some made to measure as a joint birthday/Christmas pressie because of my short, wide legs!)

Thanks guys, When I was made they made my waist a nice size, by bottom ok but squishy but they gave me baby rhino legs! I don't have ankles

Yes no problem but the gaiters must be of identical leather as the boot & wihout any embelishment on them. This is so they look like long boots. You are not permitted to wear chaps, that's a definate no no.

You can eat lettuce if you want...I'd rather eat chips

I wear Ariat short boots and Ariat Gaiters for Dressage and showing - no probs. Some people do think that the Tredstep gaiters have a better fit around the ankle though.

I also have rhino calves and really struggled to find long boots which fitted. If I got ones which fitted my calves okay they were super baggy at at the ankles.

I bought the Tredstep laced boots and gaiters and they are fantastic! Once on they look like field boots and as I ride in spurs at competitions you can't see the join between the gaiter and the boot. I've ridden in them at least once per week (only use them for competitions and training) for 3 years now and they still look brand new.
