Can you easily control your horse in a gallop?

I always gallop where he'll run out of steam before me, but I've never really thought about it so i'm guessing we must have brakes

If she had her way she would go everywhere at the gallop! I can stop her very quickly if needed but it tends to be gradual.

In the old days, when Tego was still being ridden, they would always be "racing" so would take longer to stop...!

She is ridden in a pelham with 2 reins though... I'd have no chance with anything less...

I don't have anywhere I'd consider safe enough for a gallop out of control! Pip stops within 2 strides and Calv is backwards thinking still so stops as soon as I stop pushing him on- though he's only managed one 4 beat gallop to date, he can't even do it in the field- warm bloods

If you can't control your horse at a gallop you shouldn't be galloping. End of story.

As I said I don't gallop anywhere that I don't feel safe. If I felt out of control I would have resorted to a stronger bit or a noseband or just avoided these lovely paths in which my gelding really stretches out and enjoys himself. As it is, I never try doing anything harsh with the reins or even deepen my seat particularly. I am very happy.

As I said, I just wondered...
