Have owned Archie for almost five years. Never been ill or lame (touches wood). Lives out 24/7/365. Summer lives on grass and a token feed after a ride, farrier. Winter, fed ad-lib hay, 1 feed per day consisting of large heaped scoop of Hi-fi, Dodson & Horrell pasture mix, well soaked speedibeat. Had him worm counted in October and his count was so low I was advised be didn't need worming. However, I didn't worm for tape worm. He has his own paddock, own water and is poo picked daily.

He has, for about the last two to three weeks been quite windy and his bottom is stained with watery poo. His dropping can be quite loose and then not so loose. Had vet out on Wednesday to do his teeth and he said Archie is in excellent health, heart, respiration, etc. I mentioned the wet wind, so to speak, and he wasn't overly concerned but said to worm him for for everything, including tape around April.

I have cut out the Dodson & Horrell these past few days as TBH he is getting a bit fat so am giving him the Hi-Fi and speedibeat and ad-lib hay.

I can't recall his bottom being like this before. What should I do, if anything? Could it be the cold grass he is eating? Shall I just monitor and worm as advised in April? I wondered if anyone else on here is having or had this trouble and what they did, if anything, to try to rectify things.

Many thanks

Sorry don't know much about anything really :o but for peace of mind I'd worm him now and put him on something like Pink Powder to see if his tummy settles. If he gets worse, loses his sparkle etc I'd call the vet back, but hopefully it won't come to that. Hope all goes well x

if your horse has squirts so to speak don,t worm him it will be pointless with him havin the runs plus it will upset his tummy.monitor how he is on hay and chaff.if this continues after a week get the vet to check him thoroughly.good luck

morning i agree with worming in april if advised by a vet to do that, i would also try a pre/pro biotic, i use protexin gut balancer which is excellent and only costs the same amount for pink powder or bit more if you want the larger tub, i have 3 horses on it one of which is a throughabred which is senseitive risk from gastic ulcers also as he windsucks, i started protexin verses pink powder just before christmas and i wouldnt have them on anything else, maybe worth a try but if at all worried call your vet back.
