Yes. But only advisable if you have a secure lower leg and know what you're doing

Totally agree with Rambo, if you have a sharp horse I would not recommend it as youll probably end up jumped out the saddle - it has happened to all of us

PC members must have their DC's persmission before using them at rallies etc.

You can jump in spurs, but it's really only adviseable if your lower leg is secure enough
 
thanks!! yes, in the pony club you have to have a note. was just wandering cos oscar is getting very lazy at the moment and thought maybe spurs would wake him up, but i would only wear them at home as he does liven up out and about.


Would he listen to my leg if i wore them one day and not the next?
 
You can try them for a short period of time to sharpen him up a bit, but there are other methods too....increasing his feed perhaps, or backing your leg aids up with a schooling whip. Plenty of transition work should help to get him going off your leg better....both of mine can seem a bit 'lazy' at first, but they soon come good with the right schooling

Also worth looking at yourself jumping - if you stick your toes out as a force of habit I would recommend either dummy, comb or very rounded spurs.

The most common Prince of Wales type spurs actually have a hard edge to them, they are the most common ones sold, but are actually quite sharp IMHO.

not sure, if u wana wear spurs at SRC soph, then contact them and ask, but i don't see the problem with wearing them! lol, and yes i think you can jump in them though
 
Make sure you check the rules carefully when you go to shows, for horses and adults it is rare to have a rule against it. But I know I was told to take my spurs off on several occasions at shows, as "juniors or pony riders" cannot where them! Particularly in showing and hunter trials.... Other thing is be very carfeul as I bet your man has real sensitive skin!

i wouldnt use them at shows as he is more energetic at shows, but i will try other things, and if they dont work, maybe i will practise using them at home. thanks for your advice!
 
yes but you should have extremely secure leg position...if you grip in at all you can end up darting them with the spurs which is not good. plus it can depend on the horse...i ride my mare in them a fair bit on the flat but i don't ever need them jumping!
