I was wondering...

can you achieve the same look of a pulled main by trimming the mane with scissors and then thinning it with thinning scissors which hairdressers use...?

My horse is a pain t0 pull his mane and i have given up as i think it really distresses him...

I did this today!!! Mine is an utter baby with pulling mane and I normally just fight and have a crap time three or four times a year, we both end up hating each other, i have bleeding hands and it doesnt look great! So today I thought, I havent got any competitions very soon so I will cut it, thin it and see. It was SO easy, sucha joy to do, it looked amazing, horse was happy and it looks like I had it pulled!
Then I remembered I have got a competition on Sunday so lucky really!!!! Go for it good luck, you'll never go back!!!

:D my horse might look presentable....for once hehe

Where can you get hairdresser's thinning scissors from? Also do you just cut the whole mane with them, or just the 'underneath', if you know what I mean?

it has always been something that i have thougth about....but i was never sure whether it would work so my horses main has grown and grown

I think I got mine from Tesco's!!

Ummm, I cut the mane to a reasonable length and then just sort of snip upwards at a slight angle so it doesn't look like a basin haircut (dead straight).

Sorry, not very good at explaining it!!!

I do with scissors always, used to pull but my older horse hates it. Baby horse does not agreeing with pulling however hot and warm he is!!

Depends on the horse a lot of the time but with time you can get a nice looking mane.
