My boys came in today and one of them was wet through! he was wearing his weatherbeeta lightweight rug. The other boy had on a saxon lightweight ( the cheaper of the WB) The one that leaked is about three years old so i think i will get him a new one. Can anyone recommend one that really keeps the rain out cos he may just as well have not been wearing it today!

I bought Premier Equine ones for my girlies and they were fine even in the Midlands Monsoon

Oh i hadnt thought of them. I bought some of their travel boots a month or so ago and they are brilliant! I will have a look at their website. Thanks

i got a bucas l/w irish turnout for my welsh cob, it has kept him dry in the monsoons we have been having, well worth the money!

Horsewear Amigo....the 1200 denier navy blue one. Avoid the girlie pastel cloured ones they are not the same.

I have shires and masta which are both good. If your rug is 3 years old it might be that during cleaning you have damaged the water proofing. I sent a rug away 2 years ago for proofing and it came back as waterproof as a summer sheet!!! They had completely ruined its water proofing. I also suggest a high neck or full neck as that prevents the rain running down the shoulders.

I bought a Rhino lightweight two years ago, and my mare wore it 24/7 all over the winter whilst she was out on the moors. I was worried it might blow up as it didn't have leg straps just a fillet and it stayed on, never moved and is still leak free now. Brilliant rug even though it was a Rhino rather than a Rambo so the outside wasn't as tough. Most impressed.

Ours have between them Mark Todds, Amigos and Saxons(spoilt pony and growing baby!) and have to say the Saxons are the best for waterproofness and fit. The MT isn't too bad but after a heavy downpur takes anout 2 days to dry properly and the tail flap is next to useless! Amigo is on it's 4th year and not to bad leaking wise but keeps breaking....so Saxon all the way!

I bought the 1200 navy blue Amigo, expecting it to be a brilliant rug - I have a pink one, and also a medium weight one for the winter, both of which have been superb.
However, the new one was completely ineffective in the rain; my horse was as wet as he would have been with no rug at all!
I took the rug back, and the retailers are going to send it back to Horseware. I bought a Rhino lightweight (£20 more expensive) and that has been fine in the heavy rain we have had.

The navy blue amigo is really good.

I bought a really dodgy premier equine one that was soaking through, wouldn't buy another in a hurry!

We've got 2 Premier Equine ones. 1 leaks and 1 doesn't. The one that doesn't leak is alright as long as you don't take it off the horse, as soon as you do the inside gets wet somehow. Don't know if it is the horse body heat keeping it dry.

Most LW TO rugs are only shower proof.

You need to buy something that has at least a 1000 denier outer shell.

Mark Todd, Rambo, Amigo, Fal - all do ranges that are totally waterproof.

I got a rhino one for my horse after he shredded his cheapy £25 one. At £75 it was expensive, but he hasnt shredded it, and has never been wet underneath

Both of mine have been completely dry under their rugs in this weather. One has a rhino wug light (horrid brown check colour) and the other has a wb landa combo.

definately a rambo or rhino rug.
I havent come across anything which comes close for keeping them dry and coat in such nice condition. They don't slip either.
