ID or IDx horses.............

Il want an ID or IDx horse (gelding), 16.3 upwards...... 6-10yo ideally......

I always window shop horsemart, horsequest, etc etc but I didnt know if there were any dealers, yards etc that specialise in this sort of horse that I should keep an eye on?
Im looking for a MW/HW show hunter, ability to do WH, dressage, hunting, and just a bit of everything really (but showing is main interest!) Obv not expecting it to be already established as otherwise it just costs WAAAAAAY too much! (well not for what the horse would be, but for what I can afford i mean!)

i am not looking to buy right now (got another 12 months to wait) and I found out at the weekend the horse I would have liked to get, is basically just not suitable for what I want (was a bit gutted but also, better to be grounded now right?!)

Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Also, anywhere in the country as I would be willing to travel anywhere to get the right horse! :)

Those kent horse producers always seem to have some nice looking horses for sale but I know nothing about them at all. I always flick over their ads as the horses look too expensive for me! Lol

I agree, there is a horse called Artemis Porsche from kent horse producers who I think is just incredible!!! but yes, probably a little out of my price range...

also I have read a number of pro's and con's about both them and Ride Irish on here............... and I can't make up my mind whether I would go to them or not.! Gah! :)

Hi,
I have a lovely IDxTB/WB 16.1hh mare who I am considering selling. She is a gorgeous grey and 6 years old. She has hunted, SJ, XC and dressaged! I have two horses and didn't know which one to sell, but if you are interested I can send you a pic and some more info. Not sure what your budget is but she is £6000. Lots of potential, her half sister is a 3 day eventer and she was bred locally. My email is abi@abiwatson.wanadoo.co.uk if you are interested.x

To be honest, I think you have to take what other peopele say about dealers with a pinch of salt - I think for any dealer there will be good and bad 'tales' and, unless all you ever hear about the are total horror stories then i would take them at face value.

If you know what you're doing and what you're looking or have someone with you that does then I think the only thing you can do is, if you like the look of something go and check it out for yourself.

Plenty of people with bad stories about dealers have either over-exaggerated their capabilities when looking at horses or they can't possible admit that maybe it has actually been their own doing that has resulted in a horse's behaviour change once they've bought it.

Well I breed them, but they tend to fly off the shelf at 4. I have 4 yo 17.1 ISH that would do everything you want, he'd do Prelim dressage next week, and is just starting to show a nice shape over a fence. THE most perfect temperament I've come across - easy, willing, laidback! Bythe time he's 6 and fully established he'd be mega-bucks (he's not CHEAP now )

I also have 2 x 4 year old RID geldings, who should mature at LEAST 16.2 and which take up the leg well. One is a little greener than the other backed 5 months later) but both are almost certainly better schooled, and 'easier' than many 6 year olds!

A 6-10 yo will EITHER be already established and competing, or chances are he has NO potential - or has been mucked up! Your best bet is a nice 4 year old from a breeder/producer who has done the job right - i.e. well backed and hacked, and lightly schooled.

abi - argh!!! damn it! hold her for 12 months!! :D I cudnt get a horse right now unfortunatly as I am just about to start my rotations (on a vet course!) so just would NOT have the time (or energy if I am honest) to cope with a horse as well, but I am aware of that, I am just currently trying to plan to know where to look and what to look for......

darn! :(

Ladyt - yes I am sure you are right, and HOPEFULLY I will have my head screwed on well by the end of rotation and know a) what to look for particularly and b) know a number of good people to ask to come do vettings! :D

JanetGeorge - AHHH! 17.1 would be perfect!!! :( poop! :( Do you have a website I can keep track of horses you have please? or could i get back to you closer to the tme to see if you have any that fit the bill?? I agree you are probably right that for my money, (about 6K) I might have to go a little younger, and I would be willing to but ONLY if the horse's temperament is pretty incredible as I can't really risk getting a youngster that is too frisky or green (iv just given up riding a mare who was 6yo and went totally mental and started rearing and spinning to evade work - her back etc had all been checked it was just attitude!) as being a starting out vet I can't risk any serious injuries! (or my mum might kill me after paying my way through vet school! hehe) If you could let me know though I would be ever so grateful!!!

:)

Aha! JG - just found your website on your contact info on here! I had actually seen you site before I was just concerned he might be a bit young for me! But he is gorgeous! As is the 4yo at the bottom of the page! :)

And btw I WANT your stallion on your album on here! He is just stunning!!! :) (very jealous!!)

Tiffany - yes she replied above and I have checked out her website - twas very nice! will be keeping and eye on that!

I also got recommended to theirishhorse.co.uk which was also nice... but a lot of cobs rahter than hunters.

If you mean the ID society website yes I have been on but most at the moment are very young...... is this normally the sort of horse advertised on here?
