I was 10; 1970; the horse was called Tiger and it was the 10 o'clock lesson;but I cant remember the instructors name;she wore big glasses; I remember that; But I owe her a lot. Raise a glass to the unknown instructor who inspired me into a lifetime of horse ownership.

Yup, it was Jo I was aged about 4 (was pre school anyway)

I also remembering her taking me for my first canter, on a grass verge  and the pony aptly named cheeky decided to stop abruptly and put his head down to eat the grass.. and I slid down his neck! :D

No.

I can remember however the one which taught me everything and undid all the errors I'd been taught previously. Jude :)

'Mum' :D

First RS lesson was on a pony called Sandy, taught by Zara :) I still have a photo somewhere.

And after Zara I had a RI called Lucy. And also some more of my mum, but I didn't like her teaching me much!

I was about 10, the pony was a 13.2hh ginger thing called Rex and my instructor was called Julie.

They were some of the happiest days of my life. I loved Rex to bits. They also had an apoloosa called Scooby that I liked riding too.

tim! he always wore funny hats, he was a bit crap compared to my last instructor though, then it was janet who was very very loud the the best one of all, will, now i just get instruction of the YM

Mum, I was about 3 on a family friend's pony Buck, who was an absolute saint.

As for 'proper' lessons...it was Claire and a pony called Nutty, I didn't stay there very long though due to several incidents which completely knocked my confidence, Mum decided it was time to go somewhere which was BHS approved. Best decision she ever made!

The teacher that taught me most about riding? A 13.2 grey mare called Lady, she was 27 years young and an ex-showjumper. She completely rebuilt my confidence after several horrible experiences, taught me to canter properly and taught me to enjoy jumping, as well as giving me my first gallop! I used to ask for her on every Own a Pony Day I went on, and she would beat the younger ponies hands down at gymkhana games, my favourite memory being the time we were supposed to mount and trot back to the start line, I'd only just got my leg across the saddle and didn't have time to pick up the reins before she was off, cantering back to the start. How I wish my parents had bought her for me, she was a true star. :)

It was a Saturday morning in 1982 and the instructors name was Sherry Tonkin, at Worlebury Stables in W-s-M.

I can't remember the name of the horse, might have been Teddy (a big fluffy cob the colour of a teddy bear) or possibly Knocker (a lovely dapple grey about 15.2hh).

My first lesson must have been around my birthday many moons ago, I think I was 6 or 7? That would make it 1984/5. The instructor was called Sally Wheeler and the pony was a little bay gelding called Sunny. It was a lovely sunny day and we went for a walk out down the lane and back. I remember it really well.

Mine was with Teresa Capon at FORDC, I was 9 riding Chevel (sp?) and it was the day Andrew and Fergie got married.

I too had lesson with both Eric and Lizzel Winters, but I was older in my teenage years

A lady called Carol-Ann in the early 80's. A very brisk, no-nonsense type, always wore a hairnet and a faded beagler along with the ubiquitous green quilted husky coat and hunter wellies! Red cheeked, a bottom built for comfort and a voice like a foghorn! Think your stereotypical PC instructors in the 80's!! But she taught me a lot - she had nothing smaller than 14.2 and I was 4 or 5 when I started. Began to ride a 14.2 saint called Arrow, then got switched onto 13.2 Charlie who was built like the proverbial and was much less 'saintly' than Arrow! Despite my pleas and the 'He's not as nice as Arrow' and the 'but Arrow would never do that', I was stuck with him - for longer than I thought as it turned out as my parents bought him for me as an xmas present :-)

I can't remember who taught me, but I remember being on a horse every week that bucked and bucked. After a number of falls, it occurred to me to lean back and that was my first lesson in strategy for staying on!

My first "proper" instructor was Michelle and she taught me from age 6. Before that our neighbour Erica taught me on her pony dormouse a black shetland.

Joyce Kemp. She wore knitted tea cosies on her head and had a lot of cats which did awful things in her house, but she taught legions of little girls to ride and many of us got free lessons in exchange for helping on Saturdays :) My favourite pony was a liver chestnut called Minstrel, but she usually put me on a bay mare called Polly who seemed enormously tall but was probably only about 15hh :)

Yup - it was a lady called Marilyn who kept a few horses/ponies in Tooting - we rode on Tooting Bec. There was (hopefully still is) a sand school on the common where she taught. First pony I rode was called Merlin and he was super. Bay I think, probably about 14hh? I think I was 8.

Her name was linda. She was an amazing instructor who worked at bunny and taught me the most valuable lessons of my riding life. I was 5. :-)
