Can you rent horses?

Say someone wanted a horse to hack around a certain place. For example, the village where a recently deceased friend grew up and which holds special memories... where could they enquire about renting a horse? And how much would it be? Would you have to ask at a trekking centre, or for a hunting hireling.. but even they surely wouldn't let you just go off on your own for a couple of hours..

You could contact stables in the area. It seems likely you would have to have an escorted hack however.
