I want to start competing in FEI competitions next year (I’m being registered with the FEI at the end of this year) and I wanted to know if I could start off with CSI3* competitions or if I have to start with 1* and work my way up?
How does the whole process work basically.

Ive been competing with the FFE at 1m20 thats why I’m asking. I’m not going in as a complete novice that’s why I was asking

In theory you could but the 1* 1.20 tracks are lot more inviting and you have a good chance of getting the lower placings with a double clear so its a good way to build horse and rider confidence and get a few results on the horses record.

the FEI website will provide all the answers you need but as Shay has said if you are asking all these questions than you probably will not be ready to compete at 3*

Right, but I would think the courses etc. would be a tad different from FEI? I know someone who moved from the UK and now events in France and they say the courses there are very different from ones here for example (which I think are the FEI norm if that makes sense). Personally Id still start at 1* (not that Ive ever ridden above this) and do well before moving up.
