Can you use a stable with the door pinned back as field shelter?

Newbie question: I am trying to decide whether to get a mobile field shelter or a mobile stable. While we only have one pony, if I get the mobile stable, is there anything to stop me just leaving the door pinned back, so he can wander in when the flies are bothering him/it is peeing down with rain?
I appreciate that with two ponies there would be an issue with the narrow door?

No problem at all, mum does this now her mare is on her own. - She'll often pop in for a lie down nap out the sun!

We tried it with two but the fact that the water from the buckets ended up all over the place indicated that there were arguments over whose was whose stable! :D

thank you!! what I was hoping to hear.
Although am now getting greedy and thinking of getting 12 x 24 shelter and then I can divide and add stable door if I want to turn one into stable.

That's a good idea actually. You could put a door on each side, or a slip rail on one side and a door the other, and then you have somewhere dry to store your hay/bedding etc as well.

A friend of mine has both a static field shelter and 2 mobile stables. The Static FS was divided into 3 stables. Each one of the Mobile stables has a coral around it.

As she has only 2.5 acres and 5 horses on it the stables are useful to stop them going onto the main fields during the winter. She has never had a problem with them sharing the stables.

My lot can get into the yard and the stables , the doors are left open and I often find 1,2 or 3 of the horses one stable. I also have a field shelter that they can all share if they want.

In the summer I put shavings down part of the floor and in the winter I cover the whole floors.
