Can you use a standing martingale with a grackle noseband ? My trainer said today to try a standing martingale on my boy not sure about using it with a grackle? any ideas? he goes best in a grackle than a flash.

thanks i thought it was a bit odd for her to say that. hes had 2 weeks witha dressage rider now being schooled as hes had two abceses in his neck in the last 2 years, so he just needs ro realise it doesn't hurt to carry his head lower as physio and vet say his neck is not paralised. New bit coming this week to will try that.

You could use a market harborough instead of a standing martingale as it attaches through the bit to the d-ring on the rein rather than onto the noseband. Then you could keep the grackle. I find that market harboroughs are softer and kinder than standing martingales which are very rigid, but will still encourage his head downwards.
