Can you XC in knee boots??

Going for some XC practice this weekend, and after my friends horse having a bad fall and damaging her kness I'm paranoid about Star doing it now...Do people jump in knee boots? What leg wear should we have on or any extra tack etc??

Tell ive never done XC lol...:p
 
I've never seen anyone going xc in knee boots, but I don't see why not. I think you have to fit them quite tight though, which could be a bit restrictive.
 
High Peak Harriers hunt in knee boots (most of them do) as they jump dry stone walls. They are knee boots that dont have a bottom strap.
I would not personnally jump in knee boots as if they are going to keep hitting the fences with their knees then I would rather not jump them as they are likley to fall down (the horse not the boots). And obviously no respect for themself.
Thats just my personal preferance not to say that it can't be done.

I totally agree if a horse is hitting fences with its knees then I wouldnt want to XC it!!

Oh yes, forgot about those mad people jumping all those stone walls!

They're obviously not too restrictive then!

I think it's the exception rather than the norm for horses to injure their knees cross country, so if I were you, I'd just stick a set of brushing boots on and go for it!!
 
THey are brilliant for riding on the road and I would never go out without them. Never xc in them but if you keep an eye on them I don't see why not.They are a bit stiff when new but soften up
 
I hunt in mine when we are over big wall country- my lad never snaps his fronts, because he would rather jump a foot higher and let them dangle, but a lot of our lot hunt in them, and our lady fieldmaster teamchased in them last year for us. I have some pics of them being used:

I wont be jumping in knee boots if im there.

I use clarendon boots as they are really tough and dont move at all.

You should be ok in just standard boots as if its your first time xc then you just want to start small and go from there.

*still praying ground wont be wrecked after the rain due tomo*
 
I hunt with the High Peak and wouldn't go without them and my horse very rarely touches a stone however have seen horses have stones go through the knee boots so would only use the plastic "porter" boots and would never use ones with straps at the bottom. They're the ones designed for jumping, not road work. The ones which are built into the brushing boot are useless for jumping. Not many places sell them but do have a number if you need it....

and Rosie those jumps were HUGE....argh....

Hmm think ill give it a miss as Claire they are only gonna be small, but maybe have them in the lorry just in case
