I recently posted about our 12 yr old dog who has been having intermittent coughing fits, laboured breathing if excited and his bark has become hoarse. I suspected laryngeal paralysis, or chronic bronchitis, so after a vets consultation today he is booked in for chest x-rays next week, but my big fear is that they may find a tumour.

If so what would I do? He is in ok health for an older dog, but suffers from arthritis and cataracts, and my 'head' is now thinking that it would be kinder to euthanize whilst still under anaesthetic, as definitely don't want to put him through lengthy cancer treatment at his age. Also we got 'screwed' over by a certain supermaket pet insurance policy, that decided at 10 yrs they would not cover him for vets fees, despite us never putting a claim in, so there are also financial implications.

However he still enjoys a reasonable quality of life, still wants to go for a walk everyday, and eats well, so my 'heart' says keep him going.

I suppose this is all irrelevant as I have yet to have a diagnosis and cannot make any decisions until I do, but am trying to prepare myself mentally for the worse......

Any thoughts?
