My mare was supposed to be in the care of someone else- however to cut a long story she is lame on one of her legs as she has rampant thrush (she has it in all 4 but the one leg in particular is the worst).. ive started the peroxide treatment and had all her frog and dead tissue cut away so i can get at it.. however she lives out and i was wondering if anyone had tried canesten on thrush? does it work?
My vet suggested not to continue the peroxide for too long as it can kill good tissue and to only do it 2-3 times a week.

Help!!

Not sure that would be cost effective even if it did work! Tetcin, a spray available from your vet is really good but the peroxide treatment works too. Some people use a purple spray you can get in tackshops etc but Tetcin is the ideal one.

Good old stockholm tar should help. In the winter then my horse is in i wash her feet daily with hibiscrub and if they get a bit wiffy i peroxide them using a syringe to get righ into the frog and sides and put stockholm tar on.

best thing i found was the oxytetracycline blue spray from the vets- stuff used for footrot- cleared my boys thrush up in 7 days and hasn't come back (yet).

Hi, my horse had thrush and the best thing that treated it is Keratex Nail Hole Disinfectant. It smells like orange peel and it penetrates deeply into the foot. Any time that I sense the thrush is there, I squirt it and its sorted. It is very good. It clears it up within a day or two.
