Do I don't I? basically, I don't currently run (but could and will), the cost of the harnesses put my off as my lurcher (yes the one that did her cruciate in 2012) is very sensitive, I have tried 3 harnesses and she hates them (stops tail down, I have tried again and again but she is so hesitant in them) , have not tried a proper canicross harness but the price to try one puts me off, can I run her in a harness with nothing between her front legs as this appears to be the bit she is not keen on?

could do 5k at Hylands park in March, I am tempted and maybe a race will be something to aim for and get me off my butt.

Vets agree getting this dog out and doing is working for her as if her excersize is increased the muscle mass seems to support the joint, obviously running in a controlled manner will hopefully build her up more and reduce the manic figures of 8 she launches herself into when she 'has a moment', do they pull lame dogs out or is everyone allowed to run? not that I intend running her on a bad day, however sometimes she will present lame for a few strides if she lands awkwardly.

Is she a puller? If not you don't need to use a harness you can use a flat collar and lead.

Alternatively to start with (till she gets the idea that pulling is ok) you could use something like a kisi or a snugglepets harness (nice and fleecey, I use one for canix with my doober) and jog at the side or slightly ahead of her with the lead on the chest ring at the front (not sure if the kisi one have a front ring but the snugglepets does).

Never seen a lame dog at an event but I am sure they would pull if they noticed but perhaps if you had a note from your vet? From what you say I doubt it would be much of an issue.

You dont have to be super fit just go and enjoy it, all abilities do i. I haven't done one for while as my boy had been off for months last year with a shoulder ligament issue but thats been ok for a long time touch wood and I have just ordered a new running belt and line so will be starting again (if i can keep up with him!)

yes she is a puller and I am sure if she begins to enjoy it she will be like a tank (hey ho), the tendency to pull will have to be kept on top of though as it is the one thing that upsets her leg.

thanx for help will have a look at those harnesses

If you join a local club they should have kit so you could try lots of different harnesses until you find one she's happy with (what I'm doing at the moment).

I'm aiming for a race in May as my motivation......that and Tia stops trashing the house when she charges about when we're running!

In that case def get a harness with a ring at the front and use a double ended lead. My boy is a 40kg tonka toy and pulls in his harness like a train but a quick clip and the lead at the front ring voila! :)
