Hello forum members my now 6 year old still hasnt had all of his canines come through they started to erupt at 5 the bottoms are through but not the top. Does anyone know of the time scale on how long they can take or if they turn in to blind teeth is there a fix or will they be problematic. He has started to toss his head since they started, he is a slow developer and grower being shire x WB.

Thanks

Mine had this problem, he was in some discomfort so I stopped riding him but he was constantly doing stuff with his tongue and holding his head on the side. They were trying to come through and you could see bumps where they were under the gum. The vet cut the gum (local anaesthetic) to release them and they developed normally. Like yours it was only the top ones which were stuck. I couldn't leave them to be blind as they were annoying him.

Thanks for this I think it makes sense to contact the vet and ask if thats possible did you have your dentist there too?

Many Thanks

No, I don't have an equine dentist, the vet was a dental specialist anyway, it was a straightforward procedure taking only a few minutes.
