cannot believe my YO!

my friend has two horses which are kept on rubber matting with just a sprinkle of shavings

yesterday our YO came up to her and said they havent got much of a bed have they? my friend replied that it was the whole point of having rubber mats

YO then replied "your not spending enough on your bedding, if you dont start spending more i`m going to ask you to leave the yard!"

now bearing in mind he`ll let the rest of the yard go out 24/7 in the summer from bout april till october time so we are only spending the bare minium while my friend keeps hers in every night all year (they get fat easily) so is probably spending more than us!

always thought YO was a idiot but this just proves my point!

anyone else heard of a YO doing this?

Never heard of this, although know some YO's can get a bit precious on bedding being bought in, if they normally make a profit on the stuff they supply themselves.

I would have told him I was minimising his muck removal bill!

I think if a YO said that to me I'd pack up my horse and my bloody rubber matting and move to a yard that understood you dont need a foot deep beed when you have rubber matting on the floor!

On some level, yes I can understand it as so many YO's make money on the 'extras'. He may think that people will 'average' two bales a week - which could bring him in as much as an extra £5.00 per horse. Which is quite a bit.

We get unlimited shavings in livery so YO is happy if you dont use much (on rubber matting)!!!!!

what an idiot!!! i would be over the moon if liverys only used a bit of bedding... i allow for 2 bales a week and only cost that at what i get them for plus 50p which goes toward the transport cost so make nothing on it at all.... more fool me by the sounds of it!!!

what a twit !! agree he is jsut after money! At our yard its £8 a bale of shavings - and most horses get 1 new a week! Drive less than 3 miles tho and u can buy one for £6 - So thats what I do.
