Canny canter!

I have now mastered my canter and progressing everyday, when I have my riding lessons I canter no problem . . . But when it comes to trying on my loan pony I have great difficulty! When going on a hack with my friend and going into canter she follows my friends horse in front and it is so amazing. However when coming to cantering in the arena we get to a really fast trot go sitting outside leg back and canter well we do one stride and just go into a real tract trot!can someone please help me and tell me where I'm going wrong! Thank you any help appreciated x

half halts and slow the trot down before asking for canter.

make sure you have a definite aid, sitting trot, half halt, outside leg back, sit up (most important!) and use your voice if you need.
