Just found out my trailer was stolen from the vets where Mups is in for lameness examination last night.

Have phoned the police and insurance, got a police officer coming out tonight. Luckily my very nice YO is going to pick Mups up later, otherwise I would be really stuck. It's a nightmare though, chances are that Mups is being referred and now I have no transport!

It is insured, if it isn't recovered, how long is likely to be before the insurance pays out?

Why cant these scum bags get a job and work for things like the rest of us eh?

How long before the insurance pays out?
It probably all depends on which insurance company you are with, whether you insure it to be kept in a locked barn overnight (and it wasn't when it was stolen) etc etc .........

what type of trailer is it?

when mine was stolen I notified all the usuals police/insurance etc but also the dealer I bought it from (as it was brand new) and IFOR Williams who will flag it as stolen. Due to this mine was recovered six weeks later, with a fair amount of damage but it was recovered.
 
i had one stolen two years ago , it was not receovered , the police said they araely are

Friend had one stolen and it was recovered (with some damage done to it after the theft) BUT the bloody police had it in storage for several weeks before they either found out who it belonged to or bothered to get in touch (still don't know which) and she was liable for the storage costs!

She had bought a replacement and the bloody thing almost cost her as much to get out of the compound as it did to buy in the first place!

Oh the ins co paid out (hence the replacement one) and yes, she did 'buy' the stolen one back off the compounders and sold it to the Ifor dealers in the area for about the same, so broke even eventually. But the nuisance of going and getting it back and not knowing what to do whilst the daily costs were mounting blah, blah. Not to mention the audacity of the theft! The front of these Pikeys almost is beyond belief.
 
Make sure that you insurance policy includes a service to recover a stolen trailer/vehicle.

Also postcode the trailer on the roof in large white letters so that it can easily be identified.

Inform horse watch that your trailer has been stolen and provide them with the police incident number and serial number of the trailer (with a photo if you have one). www.horsewatchuk.co.uk
 
Welcome to the stolen transport club, they took my lorry on Monday night the thieving scumbags. OK they got the lorry but also with it a load of my gear, the inconvenience factor is huge. Hope you get sorted with your insurers quickly, I am with NFU and no idea how long a claim will take. Police in our area havent even been anywhere near the scene of the crime.
 
To speed up your claim get in touch with your trailer supplier and ask them to provide a written estimate of its current day value that you can forward to the claims assessor. It still takes a few weeks but sooner you do this the better. I had my Ifor 505 stolen last year, and it was never recovered. SEIB paid out enough to afford a reasonable second hand replacement but it is not as nice as the one that went. They also took a quad and my poo picker, sigh.... I have now got a ground anchor, New York lock and chain, bulldog hitchlock, PIR beam around the house that makes a massive noise when people walk through the beam, burglar alarm, stadium floodlights and paranoia.
