As title says!

I hate new starts and get nervous and shaky! It's an equine course at craven college in skipton! Has anyone done it!

Advice?!

Gor for it.

Coming from one who, after A levels, never had the opportunity to do any kind of further education (my father left school at 14 and ended up being successful in business, so didn't believe in the need for college). Don't think he realised that it was different for my generation and that that lack of a college education hasn't helped me at all in my career. I really do wish that my parents had been more supportive of my wish to go to college/uni at the time. If I could start all over again, I would without hesitation do a college/uni course.

You've got the opportunity - go for it!

My daughter is just finishing her first year at college doing an equine course - not local to you though. which course are you looking at doing?

Sounds like the same course- extended diploma which is a 2 year course. My daughter found it a bit boring at first as she found a lot of the stuff quite basic because she has her own horse but of course not all the students are in that position so it all has to be covered. She found it picked up after the first term and is really enjoying it. She wants to teach and is also interested in rehabilitating horses with behaviour problems. She felt that it was worth getting this qualification whilst doing BHS stages and would give her extra options if she changed her mind about future career. Depends what you want to do long term I suppose. Have you been offered a place subject to grades? It is quite hard to get a place on these courses at her college as they are massively oversubscribed. Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.

Yes - I have been offered a place if my grades are of high standard! (Technical me :D)
I want to work with horses but i'm not sure if i'd enjoy it. I'm shy and nervous and I consider myself to be a novice rider so I don't wanna be laughed at!!

Go for it! You won't be laughed at, the standard varies greatly. I used to teach yard skills to the NVQ's and I had some that had never ridden before and some that were competing at national level. Some had never picked up a brush or mucked out so you won't be alone by any means.

College is a great way to up your social skills as well. You will find it, generally speaking, is a much easier going atmostphere, students are often more accepting of each other as you have your course in common, whereas at school you are just all thrown in together regardless of common intrest. Even the most shy student seems to come out of their shell by the second term.

Go, I really think you would enjoy it, if not you can always leave with no harm done, or swap onto another course.
