I'm trying to get my daughter a riding hat, but not having much luck. We must have tried on every hat in the shop and couldn't find one that fits. There was one that she liked and that was an adjustable one. Think it was a troxel, but that still was a little big and the next size down was too small. She is 5 years old and her head measures 56cm. Her head is narrow at the front and wide at the back. Some of the junior hats we tried on didn't seem sit on her head quite right they didn't seem deep enough for head but then the adults ones were too deep and too heavy for her. The champion vent air I think it was fit quite nicely but was a little loose. Size down was to small. So anyone have any ideas on a that might be the right sort of shape for her head. She is having lessons at a riding school and there hats never fit the best so really want to get her a good fitting hat. Any help would be great. Thanks

Sometimes visiting a major horse show or event, such as Horse of the Year Show or Burghley are good ways to buy a hat, as there are tack stalls from lots of different shops, so you get a bigger variety of makes in one area than you would at one shop.. We ended up finding a hat for my stepson that way when he was little.

Can you find a store that does fittings? I loathe buying hats as I can never find one that fits. I ended up going to a place that does fittings and wound up with a lovely Gatehouse, but even that required inserts and extra padding to be added to make it fit correctly. Totally worth it though!

I went to a store that does fittings, but to be honest felt like it was me doing the fitting and the woman just standing there watching me. She didn't seem to know a great deal. What is robinsons like for hat fitting? There's not a lot of choice in my area for tack shops

This is the best thing to do - many years ago I had problems getting a hat to fit me and the Charles Owen guy customized my hat for me with some little foam pieces. It's so important to find a decent hat fitter.
