Argh! Tried 4 different ways to get to the yard this morning, but had to turn back any way I tried to go...completely flooded roads around here :( we have a large pond in our front garden which has overflowed onto the road, barely made it out the driveway :/

fire engines pumping water out of houses a few villages away, schools closed, buses cancelled etc :(

thankfully I have some wonderful yard owners and fellow livery's that are more than happy to help out :) so the boys will not be abandoned bless them.

You would think a day at home would be great, but I just feel so guilty, can't even get to work! Thankfully my boss is in exactly the same situation so she knows I'm not lying!

Hoping the rain holds off and the water subsides enough to be able to get out this afternoon. This is nothing compared to the poor people in Somerset though, can't imagine what they are going through :(

stay safe everyone!

That's rotten luck. Do you think that the livery yard is at risk as well? If so, I'd advise you to start sorting out a contingency plan, i.e. somewhere else to go a.s.a.p. In our little bit of the world we've had to move out twice this year (and are moved out as I type), I was fortunate in having somewhere to go but for some of the other people it has been an absolute nightmare trying to find livery spaces as turnout even on the non-flooded yards is pretty much non-existent and so once all the stables are taken there isn't even any chance of getting grazing only livery.

Thankfully even though the yard is only 6 miles down the road it's actually on much higher ground. The fields are very well draining and the farmer regularly clears and maintains the ditches. Fingers crossed the yard shouldn't be any problem! My boy and his field mate that I look after currently have a 6-7 acre field to themselves and as much turn out as I like (in over night atm though because of the weather). Love my yard!

Hope your horses are ok, its good that the yard is on higher ground.

At a former yard I was on, the river used to flood the roads a couple of times a year, so for me, it was worth investing in a pair of waders so I could get through, using a shorter 3 mile route on foot.

Hi OP, that's really good - your yard sounds lovely. I'm crossing my fingers that you can make it through the floods soon to get back to your chaps.

Fleece lined waterproof chaps are quite good at keeping you dry. The bottom of the chaps seems to act like a sponge and even walking through floods too high to get my little 4 x 4 through I had dry feet.
