Well..... just when I seem to be getting sorted, I have a problem! As some of you know, I have Kinzzy and have recently bought a beautiful colt foal called Teddy! He's only 6 weeks old, so I have mam with him too! Three horses all together.

I rode Kinzzy for 20 mins yesterday away from my stables and when I returned the mare had ran poor teddy round the field for the whole time I was away and he was dripping in sweat! Poor little mite - I felt really bad for him...and mam really!

I know she has formed a close bond with Kinzzy already but thought she'd be ok as she had baby with her! Wrong!!!!

So what can I do? Not ride kinzzy until baby has been weaned and mam has gone back? Carry on and hope she gets used to it (I don't fancy that option)! What I worry about it what she's teaching my foal! I could put her and baby in the stables but worry she'll stand on him if she gets very stressed or barge through the door. For 99% of the time, she is such a sweet mare. Any ideas or suggestions please!

I would begin with taking Kinzzy out of the field for a few seconds, put her back in. Build it up until you can take K out of sight for a few seconds and then put her back etc. Until the mam is comfortable that she knows K will be coming back.

It's lovely that they've got such a good bond between the three of them but must be a real headache right now.

Thanks. Think I will have to try and bring them in - just hope the mare doesn't stress so much she hurts baby in the process! Nothings ever easy is it!

If it's becomes obvious that she won't settle, you may have to send them both (mare and foal) back to the breeders until weaning.
