My little mare has always been a bit of a pain in the backside :o she's jumpy, stroppy, opinionated .. And the list goes on and on and on ..

But I never have an issue handling her, I've had her 3 years now and know her inside out. I know what she's likely to have a fit about and see the warning signs and have learnt to never underestimate what she's capable of. So luckily I don't tend to have problems other than the odd prancy moment.

So, we moved the horses about 6 weeks ago to get away from a complete psycopath messing around with her at night (making her ill, the weight she lost was unbelievable :() and for the first couple of weeks even though she was in a new herd/different stables she was on her best behaviour. She's not put a foot wrong with me and I've been so happy to get my cheeky little pony back after a long time of her flinching everytime someone touched her. So why is it everytime someone handles her when I'm not there she turns into a complete monster?!

She's bombed through the electric fencing when one of her field friends went in (still others in the field ) reared up at people in the stable. Tried to bolt on the drive and fell flat on her side, bolted another time when being brought in by my mum and yesterday my mum was bringing her in and she bolted off just before the gate.

She's an absolute angel for me and these have all happened on days that I've been ill/babysitting and my mums had to do both of our girls. She bolted off down the field yesterday and today it's like it didn't even happen!

So do you think it's because I subconsciously read her signals earlier because I'm used to it or is she just what you would call a "one person horse" ??

She even confuses me at times :o

I know exactly how you feel. I have a yearlong gelding who I aquired about 5 months ago. Since he arrived he has been an absolute angel with me - butter wouldn't melt in fact ;)

With others appantly he turns into a cheeky little s**t! Biting, rearing, full on galloping at proper in the field...the list goes on.

I have seen him do this from a distane so I know its true but with me he just looks at me with big puppy dog eyes XD hehe

I'd like to thimk its because we have some 'special bond's but I don't think that's true, maybe more that he knows he wont get away with it with me ;)
