Canter Mane and Tail alternatives??!!

I know there are home-made fly spray recipes and suggestions on human alternatives to horse products to help keep costs down but ... does anyone have any suggestions as to cheaper alternatives to the canter mane and tail spray??!
My boy is turned out in a field where there are lots of burrs (not sure how you spell it), and his tail is just getting completely tangled with them. I have just moved yards and houses though so don't want to spend much.
If there are no alternatives I will get the canter stuff, but I thought it might be worth asking first!!

Lincoln Total Groom (acts as a detangler though) which is cheaper than than the product you are using but not that much cheaper.

Why not try cheap human hair spray in conditioner and see if that works just as well, also for a good one I presume they will cost just as much as a horse one actually come to think of it.

Tesco value furniture polish. Works a treat! Only downside is that the spray is a little noisy, so not good with extra spooky Horses. However my Horse stands lovely when I spray it on her tail. For her mane, I spray it on a brush and comb it through.

Furniture polish, allegedly?! have not tried it myself but am about to due to ridiculous cost of tail sprays! Will let you know but prob worth a go if your beast is OK with aerosols?

Never heard of anyone using furniture polish Got to give that a go... Mind you my mare might not like to noise :S

I use Kids detangler spray from Tesco's for about a pound. It does the job and smells good!

make your own! I used an old spray bottle, water, some leave in conditioner (that was very expensive and meant for me but I hated it!) or normal conditioner, and baby oil (go easy on the baby oil though!), and give it a big shake and wallaahhhhh! It works fab on my horse mane and tails, and alot cheaper! Also heard fabric conditioner and shavings foam are also good things to add in the mix.

Deffinatly back the furnature polish!!

when i bought my mare she was compleetly wild and her mane which was over a foot and a half long and her tail were compleetly dredlocked and had burrs in it, and the furniture polish worked amazingly!!

after just spending £12 for a large bottle of the canter stuff i will most deffinatly be going back to furniture polish!! x
