Canter over Trot

Does anyone else's horse/pony prefer to work in canter than trot?? Potss tends to shuffle along in trot and when i push him forward he would rather pop into cater than move forward in trot!! pain in the bum!!

Yh, mine horse does that

HALF HALT, HALF HALT, HALF HALT

though my pony would rather trot really fast than canter

This is a sign of pain in the stifle or could even be spavin or navicular or LGL or even a small fracture... it's a sign of something wrong in the joints. I would call vet for a check over just to be on the safe side....

he is so sensitive to my aids half halt = stop! and he canters at the speed of trot when he does this

He has done it for 5 years and their is nothing wrong with him, its behavioral not medical

Will he trot on a lunge? If so, maybe work on it there?

He does but he'd stll rather canter, he's been a jumping pony most of his life do you think its just how he was taught to go when he was younger??

Mine when jumps are in the school she just wants to canter, she is a very forward going pony, even on the flat with no jumps, can't get any decent work out of her untill she's had a canter to be honest. I couldn't give my opinion on yours because I don't know him
