Whenever I canter my share-mare (new word for the dictionary there!

) out on a hack she keeps putting her head right down as if to snatch the reins, but doesn't go any faster once she has the reins!? She doesn't do it for the whole canter just every now and again. If I half-halt her a little and give her a tap on the shoulder with the whip she seems to stop.
Is it something I am doing wrong or is she just being rude??

I wouldn't call it rude - just comfortable for her. If you half halt before you ask for the canter and get her working from behind she would be less inclined to do it.

I've known a few do this, often heavyier types. Seems to happen when thier trying hard? Found it more annoying then anything. small squeeze on one reinusually picked them back up. never did get to a real cause or solution, maybe its a balence thing

I'll be interested in peoples response to this post.

My cob has a very low head carriage in general but even when he does drop his head he still seems to continue working correctly. I try to keep his head a little higher by just giving him a squeeze with my leg and having a play with the reins but I have wondered why he does carry his head so low.
