Ok I know I've had George over a month but I still hadn't been brave enough to canter on a hack. Well today the sun was shining, he was great, so I bit the bullet - he was an absolute poppet

So much so that we did it twice more

He didn't hare off or shy and he stopped when I asked. They laughed (kindly) at the yard when I got back as I couldn't stop hugging him

I'm beginning to think that he's one in a million.

Sorry self indulgent post, just had to let it out!

My instructor keeps saying she'll have me jumping again by the autumn! I totally lost my confidence jumping after some nasty falls and broken bits of me, but I'd really like to get back into it again, but we're going to tackle it as if I've never jumped a stick in my life!

I think you've got yourself a goodun!!

No harm in starting again! You and George can go at your own pace and build confidence! Your instructor sounds really encouraging to!

PS I cantered my horse yesterday on a hack! Havent had the courage for a while due to bucking broncos but it was lovely and she was so good! So I know the feeling!!

And when I start jumping her again, (which I know I will if nothing else goes wrong- dont ask!!) I will start from the baby stuff too!!! Mainly for her, but also because Im very rusty!!!

PPS I had a German Shepherd called George and he was gorgeous too!!! It must be in the name!

Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm struggling with my confidence after a nasty fall which broke my leg and I know exactly how elated you must feel!

Fantastic that he was so good for you, now you can go and have fun a bit more relaxed next time. Onwards and upwards!

well done! He sounds like such a lovely boy.

I never thought I'd have the confidence to jump, having only done a few tiny cross poles as a child and I fell off for virtually every one of those.

In the end some other people were jumping and I was there waiting to go into the school and as they went to put the jumps away I found myself asking them to put one down to a tiny height and I'd have a go...and I did it and stayed on!

You'll probably find you'll just want to do it one day, espesh as your trust in him grows.

Well done - very proud mum moment, give him loads of cuddles!!!! I know how you feel, too, lost my bottle a little while ago and it is scary.

Well done, you are having such a great time with him aren't you? I love reading your posts as it is so nice to hear about someone having lots of fun and really enjoying their horse (sometimes it is easy to forget to have fun!).
He does sound an absolute sweetheart !

That's exactly the way to do it! I lost my confidence when I was younger, riding at a different riding school. The horse chucked me off and I sailed back first into the jump. When I went back to my normal riding school I couldn't jump - I was so nervous that I wound the horse up completely. So my instructor took me right back to trotting poles and we restarted me that way. It worked, plus the second time around you get the chance to improve your technique

Good luck!
