Just a ponder whilst flicking through the Robinonson's catalogue before the pub beckons

How warm is a canvas turnout with the wool mix lining (olde style rugs)? I'm guessing they are quite toasty? How would they compare to a normal rug weight wise eg. 300g etc?
Tempted for Beano over winter as they might be tougher to rip than normal rugs

Also how long do they take to dry out after a soaking?
Thankies

I remember when all there was were canvas rugs & we were all so pleased when the newer type rugs were brought in. The canvas rip easily, it's like trying to get cardboard rug onto the horse, they're horrible. If you have a horse that is very tough on rugs then go for one with the balistic material (1680 denier) cos the canvas won't last 5 minutes.

I think that the canvas rugs are definately better for the rug thug. However, they just get so heavy to deal with when their wet.......

Do you no what i love canvas rugs for the summer, just take the lining out, they are the only rugs that really breath! Can be harder to dry out than modern rugs, but much healthier.

TZ totally agree with you, I would never go back to canvas now. The only thing my horses doesn't rip is Rambo's or Fal's but I think that is because they are not cheapy rugs made in China or wherever they make them now. Canvas takes ages to dry, can rub badly and smell. Not to mention the cardboard effect.

I had a 'rug thug' on loan once. He used to wear an old canvas NZ with leg straps in the stable as anything else he would take off and throw out the door!
