I have a lovely little connemara cross competition pony who is just about recovered from a minor tendon injury.

Howeever I recently went out onto the yard to find he had pulled a back shoe off in the stable and has really puffy hock!

As far as I know they are permanent but some people have said you can get them to go down a bit, any ideas how to?

I was hoping to do working hunters with him when he is fit but I feel that he would be unable to show with a capped hock.

Helpppp!

Cold hosing and goose fat!!!! Be warned...goose fat produces a lot of heat and all the fur will be removed from any area you apply it too. It will eventually grow back when you stop the application. We had a mare who had a horrendous accident and removed both knees and capped both hhocks and it worked well for her. I would start with cold hosing though and massage and when all else fails, maybe go down that route.

Cold hose as much as possible for the first 2 weeks to get the swelling down. Also, use of correctly applied pressure bandages can help to encourage swelling to go down.

sorry but i'm not sure whether my horses are capped or not should there be some 'fat' over the hock or should you just be able to feel the hock with nothing over it, this could possibly be the most stupid question so I'm sorry if it is!
