Capped hocks?

I have no personal experience but know CB's are prone to them and I have five!! They are unsightly to look at but do not cause unsoundness.

I believe that they are caused when heavy horses sleep on hard ground which is why very deep litter is recommended for horses like CB's which have a lot of bone. Mine have rubber mats and deep straw.

It would be a disadvantage if you want a show horse but if you want a horse to hack, hunt jump etc. should not be a problem.

My wifes conemara capped his hocks when he was on box rest, he had just been put on rubber, so that could have caused the problem. She bought some neoprene hock boots to allow the scabs to heal. not totally effective as air needed to get to the scab ot heal properly. Stopped them getting worse though, and once he was turned out they cleared up quickly.
