Hi folks, my chap has one capped knee from banging his door. Its not too bad but is there any treatment that I can give him to get rid of the synovial fluid on the joint? thanks!

Dont know if it works but its been discussed before.
My mare banged her knee jumping 2 weeks ago and still has a little fluid but no lameness at all.I have used clivers and it helped reduce inflammation on capped hock .You can buy it from natural horse on ebay.I didnt go for draining the hock but massaged daily and you can hardly noitice it now.
I would rather try natural anti inflammatory than surgery arnica would help with bruising and msm is good for anti inflammatory.
You can get clivers everywhere for free at the minute, a good handful a day and the horse will tell you when has had enough as will stop eating them. Pick them out of hedges but make sure they aren't on side of the road as they will be covered in road fumes there. It's the sticky bud plant that everyone plays with as kids.. Or still now if your my OH!!(sorry if you already know this)
i feed them to mine at this time of year as brill for coats and hooves as a good natural source of silica, this is the reason they aid cell damage too. You can feed them fresh or collect them for drying before they flower.
Also gel ice packs and magnets work brilliantly for bringing down the inflamation and dispersing the fluid.
In the spirit of prevention being better than cure WF, you can "pad" the inside of a stable door quite effectively. This has a dual function as it (a) deadens the racket and (b) protects knees and feet. Staple an old piece of carpet to a strip of wood and fix the strip of wood to the top, inside of the stable door so the carpet hangs the width of the wooden strip away from the door. The carpet absorbs most of the energy of kicking and the gap absorbs the rest.
