Could someone give me more information on this, what u have to do and how much it costs? i have been looking into it but the dvla website doesn't really give me much information. I am thinking of doing it as my mum always drives me everywhere!

The actual test costs £115

I am in the same position as you - cant seem to find any information re. lessons/locations etc other than the cost!

I am in the process of just booking mine and a 2 day course. The test is £115, I am doing a 2 day course which includes the test on the afternoon of the 2nd day - the course is £500, plus the £115, plus the £35 for an hours initial lesson/assessment. Quite expensive really but no way around it.

I am about 30mns north of edinburgh. Seems quite expensive but if there's no way around it then better open my purse! Also is it ok for my mum to take me out with the car and trailer.. would you need L plates?

How much it will cost will depend on how adept you are at driving and reversing a trailer already, I'd been doing it either on provisional or on private land for a number of years, my friend the same. She booked herself straight into the test and failed first time as she didn't know what exactly would be required, but didn't need to take any lessons, just booked herself straight back in knowing what she needed to do and passed, total was 2x test fees of £115

I booked a local lorry/trailer instructor for a morning and then went straight onto my test at 1pm. I was fairly confident already, the morning course cost £150 plus the test of £115.

You just have to be honest with yourself about how much tuition you feel you need. I went and had an assessment with another firm first, they said there were only 2 minors that the could pick up on, yet they still wanted me to have a full days course at £350 plus the test!!! I turned them down based on their own evaluation and went elsewhere for a 1/2 day course at alot less money! and passed first time! I took a gamble, but honestly felt that they were after the money more than actually saying I needed the training!

Even if your very adept at it, I still feel a 1/2 day or couple of hours training beforehand is best to be sure!

Good luck but do shop around. Lorry instructors are best, as the test is very similar to lgv etc tests.

i have never towed before but i do have a trailer and a 4x4 to use so could have lots of practice then maybe once i feel a bit more confident book a few lessons then do the test? what did you have to do in the test?
