I have just purchased a new (to me) car and I want to keep it as nice as possible. Having a lab puppy I know this isn't going to be easy (he has already chewed the headrest in my Rav!!!) so was thinking about purchasing a crate for the boot of the car. I have had a quick look on the web but there are so many I am confused. Also I have another dog so it needs to be nice and roomy for both of them.

Can anyone recommend me a make or a website?

The car is a Reanualt Megane Estate if thats any help.

Cheers xx

We have one, it's fab! The dirt is completely contained and they keep cool-ish. They do loads of different sizes and can make one to your specific requirement.

They are fairly expensive though, my Parent got one second hand and then passed it down to me when they had too many dogs to fit in it!

There are just so many out there someone please help me.

So the dimensions of my boot are

Depth 90" (228cm) floor and 75" (190cm) roof
Width 100" (254cm)
Height 75" (190cm)

It needs to fit in this space and have room for 2 labradors - is it possible?

Is it me, or does your boot seem huge??

We have the Lintran Lincon
http://www.lintran.co.uk/select_by_car.php
It fits perfectly in the boot of our Honda C-RV, with room width wise for a pair of wellies. It would be far too small for 2 Labs though, it is designed for a hatchback so has a sloping front, if it was square, it probably would fit 2 labs at a squeeze.
Here is a pic.

My OH is silly. I asked him 2/3 times if they were right and he kept saying of course they are (bla bla bla) he is re measuring as we speak!!!!!

I did wonder, was going to dash out and buy a megane to fit the pooches in

Back to the subject of crates, would agree with makes mentioned above, MMG are also good. The only downside of crates is that they do reduce the boot space for dogs quite a bit. I can fit 2 GSDs in my Skoda fabia(yes I know its a skoda but actually its a really good car), but if I put a crate in it would make it too small imo. I am thinking of getting an inner wire door just to enable me to leave them in it with the door open sometimes, but that wouldn't help you keep the car respectable. Best thing is to get some sizes from manufacturers and check out how much space they allow in your car. Make sure OH is not half asleep though if he is doing the measuring !

I have a boot liner to keep my car (reasonably) tidy. Having said that, the boot liner does work brilliantly, it's just my own mess in the rest of the car. You know--wellies, waterproofs, spare dog leads, harnesses, water bowls, water container, sunhats, coats for all types of weather,

A boot liner does keep the floor of the boot very clean (my dogs seem to shed so much hair and are always swimming. I also put a vet bed in, which gets washed regularly, and a "gate" as suggested above to keep the dogs in safely so you can leave the boot open in warm weather.
I have a vauxhall Zaffira and this works well.

Is it a rigid boot liner, or a fabric one that attaches to the sides of the car. I looked at the fabric ones and wasn't sure how well they would stay attached.

I have just ordered a crate.

I took my OH through measurements step by step so fingers crossed it fits.

Its much bigger than the cage my puppy is using at home and so it should fit both dogs in it.

If it doesn't fit or if my dogs don't have enough room then I can send it back and i'll resort to a boot liner and guard.

Thanks for all your help and advice

Another vote for Barjo - I have a crate for the house, and also one for the car - they are brilliant, not cheap, but very well made, and the car crate can be opened from both sides in the event of an accident.

We got a gargantuan cage off Ebay for £16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It takes our collie x kelpie with enough room for another but we use it as a dog bed in the house too for him to sleep in so we wanted a huge one. I think it would easily take a GSD or a Retriever. My dog is a petite thing and stand around 20" ish high.

Here's a pic to give you a laugh - my OH is 6' tall - he was giving my friend 2yr old daughter a demo!!!!

And here's Jack in it:

Jack sleeps in his with all his cuddly toys and two pillows as well now (you can see from the pic of my OH in it)!!! Just wanted to make it as inviting as possible for him!!! We never close the door on it except when he's in the car.
