Hi, my family and i are going on holiday by car, there is four of us and 2 dogs in a 5 seater car. The back will be full of luggage, im not sure how i can safety secure our dogs in one of the back seats. They are small dogs so the space isn't an issue, but any harnesses i have seen are for one dog per seat belt. Does anyone have any advice on what we can do? Thanks :)
 
Would a double dog lead/coupler work, just clipped into the central seat belt/adapter? They will be able to move about to a degree but will hopefully stop them flying forwards in a crash?
 
I did see them online but a few people said they weren't safe. However i spent a long time looking at all the different safety precautions and i think that's my only option.
 
After a friend of mine was involved in a car accident with her dogs and the harnesses fell apart, dog car safety has become my number one priority, and you'd be amazed how badly most 'car harnesses' performed in crash tests- some even causing the fake test dog potentially lethal injury. Even harnesses sold as 'crash tested' did not always pass the test, so if you are looking for a harness, please be careful! (same goes for crates)
Regarding attaching multiple dogs to one seatbelt, you can buy climbing karabiners intended for people (these should be really strong if they are intended to hold a falling persons weight!), clip these onto each dogs harness, and then onto the seatbelt- with the seatbelt clicked in like normal, the karabiner clip goes over the seatbelt strap, and two small dogs should fit no problem :)
