Has anyone got snow socks for their car? I'm desperate to get to my horse and to work! Someone on another forum mentioned these

http://www.autosock.co.uk/

They seem brilliant and alot cheeper than snow tyres. My question is however, are these road legal?

Has anyone tried them?

I will track some down!!!

I'm guessing if they're on the one show then they probably are legal then. hmm i'm off on a mission to find some now!

From the write up they do seem to be something you put on when you're already in trouble, rather than snow tires to keep you out of trouble in the first place. They certainly don't look like they'd stand up to any sort of driving. And presumably the car would still have to be mobile since you could only slip them over the bottom of the wheel if you can roll the car forward/back.

That said, if they work (and it looks like they would) they're probably to great emergency measure.

I've not used them myself but from what i've heard they're a bit like snow chains in that you have to put them on when you come into really snowy/icy areas rather than on roads where more tarmac is showing through. Not because they damage the roads like chains do but because they wear thin very quickly when used on normal roads. They're meant to be fab on snow and ice though. Have thought about getting these or chains but havent as of yet because my little Peugeot has been fab so far and has got me everywhere i've needed to be safely. I think i'm going to fit winter tyres though next year.

I saw these yesterday! A bloke was putting them on his car at the petrol station. He obviously hadnt used them before as OH passed him and heard him saying 'this should b interesting!'!

Cant comment on them, but did wonder what on earth they were! They looked like they would just come off to be honest, and looked like they were made of a thin mesh so I did wonder how they would help, as looked like you would have less grip in them on snow then a normal tire would....

I have snow chains for my little car and they are my life saver i live in the middle of nowere so obv its not gritted but main roads are allright if you go over 30 with snow chains on the tarmac they will get thin! Deff go for snow chains!! xxx

Friend of mine has them on his VW Scirocco all the time at the mo and loves them. Says he would be stranded without them. I think I overheard him saying they should last 100 miles in this weather but that's on proper snow, on melted roads/tarmac they get a bit shredded. Can't say I know much about them but that's what he says.

I have some of these and have used them a fair bit recently. They seem to work better when they have been slightly shredded as when they were brand new they were useless. To leave home I have to drive up half a mile of steep lane and I can't get out without the socks on my car (it's a bit of a feeble car) so I'm very glad I bought them.
They are not too bad to get on and off but you need to be able to get your hands between the tyre and the wheel arch to do it so they wouldn't be much good if your car has low wheel arches and your hands are big!

it says they've tested them up to 30mph on tarmach and they go up to 50km. I live in the middle of nowhere and all our lanes are steep hills and compacted snow, no tarmac showing!
