Hi Everyone!

Ive dug up some old posts on here and been doing my research elsewhere and was wondering whether any of you would have some advice in regards to livery stables in the Cardiff area. I currently live in Newport and keep my horse on livery nearby but may shortly be getting a job in Cardiff plus the other half lives there so would like to move him somewhere in that direction.

Most importantly I'm looking for D.I.Y with all year turnout preferably out 24/7 during the spring/summer and out in the days during the winter. Although I want D.I.Y would like somewhere with the option of some turning out on winter mornings for me or bringing in the evenings (depending on which shift I am on) if possible but if close enough wouldnt be a problem. Also a school would be great and good hacking.

Been looking at Lowerstocklands and Alps Park (Only ones I can find with sites) both of which look fantastic but a bit further out that I was hoping - but still and option. I'm looking at the Lisvane area, not there specifically, but just to give you an idea of the area. Others I have heard of are Ty-Mawr, Garsides, Graig Fawr and Graig Lodge. Also found one advertised by someone called Liz in the Lisvane/Rudry area?

Any experience of the ones above, ideas of prices, what they offer or total other suggestions of different yards (or places to avoid!) would be great!

Thankyou!

Dont think its come through, unless I'm being dozy and looking in the wrong place knowing me! lol

To add insult to injury, a note on the yard board this morning about weekly livery increase again! Its already very expensive for what you get with all the horses up to their knees in quagmires all with mud fever its driving me mad!

Liz is a very good friend of mine and the yard is lovely

The only reason I'm not on there is it's too far away from my house to be viable

I think she filled the last space last week but I can email her and ask if you'd like?

I'll PM you about another yard which would be ideal (I know it well

) and I know there's at least 3 spaces coming up. EquestrianFairyagain can also vouch for it.

Just don't go to the W*****t Farm on the road of the same name - PM myself, happytohack or KrashnBurn to find out why

Thankyou for all your help so far, will definately be making a few phonecalls and going for a look around ready for when I move - hoping by early summer. Got both your PM's Sally & Muffinino - Thankyou! I think the W*****t is where my friend used to keep hers and heard a bit about that but not too much so I get what your saying lol.

Main problem with where I am now, as much as the summer is great, winters are restricted to mare/gelding alternate days out up to their knees in mud with no food so as you can imagine - mudfever, fighting, ripped rugs, lost shoes and a stroppy 5 year old Section D is wearing thin lol. Ive had him there since a foal, never bothered him really but still hard on me, but this year he seems depressed if that makes any sense and just unhappy (Maybe now as hes fitter and doing ridden work he expects it) I spend more time doing my chores than exercising him etc.

MegaBeast - Thats interesting to know, thats something that crossed my mind when I saw it with the size etc. The yard where I am now have the yard politics thing and I cant wait to get away from it! lol

If you are perhaps willing to travel about 20 mins outside of Cardiff I know a great yard with two outdoors, gallops and year round turnout on well managed, rotated fields...
wink.gif
and none of that bitchy childishness..!!

there is a place next door to W*****t livery, it's owned by a lady called Joy, that has a school, lovely paddocks and next door to the bridleways.
Also i think they do livery is a guy called martin down taffs well way, not sure if the number i got for him is still working.

Rhiwbina farm also does diy, they have an indoor school to ride but the surface isn't up to much unless they've had it done, unlikely, as it is more of a farm.

The hacking is brill nearby, but roads can be bad and busy

Wyndham Livery in Rhiwbina might be worth a look - my friend was yard manager there before she went to work for Paul Schokemohle. Don't remember her saying anything negative about it and she kept her three horses there too.

Trust me, you don't want to go there. I won't go into details on the open forum (PM if you need to know) but I strongly recommend you give it a miss.

Hi there.

Did you have any luck?

I'm also looking for a DIY livery in the cardiff area with a stable/ grazing/ school/ hacking and just wondering if you found any you could recommend?

So hard finding them when you dont know the area!!

Hi all,

I am hoping that someone can help me asap! I have been trying to find some reviews for Wyndam Livery in Rhiwbina but cant find anything, so can any of you help me! Good move or bad?

Thankyou in advance :)

I'm still attempting the great escape but anywhere between Cardiff & Newport, loving White Barn Farm but want to see some around Lisvane because apparently a good few nice ones there. Esp now out livery has gone up AGAIN this week its ridiculous!

Any advice on the yards along Graig Lane Lisvane or more Newport way? Job hunting in Cardiff, will be looking to view yards in next week or so & put my name down on a list if all goes to plan!

Lower Stocklands is very big, and I have heard it's one of the "typical" DIY yards with a lot of yard politics from a reliable source

Yard politics are everywhere if you let yourself get sucked into them! Don't judge a yard especially if you haven't experienced it first hand. All yards have different effects for different people - all depends on the individual involved.

I am at Lower Stocklands and have been for approx 3 years. I have never had any issues there (touch wood) and would highly recommend it. I have been to 2 other yards in Cardiff which were horrendous and would never move my mare again unless I had my own land.

x

the yard next to Wenalt, Joy is a bit different, very pedantic about hours the horses are allowed out, and if it rains at all they aren't allowed out
Possibly try green yard, near the maenlloyd, Rudry, the hacking is fab

Been to Greenyard the start of the year, the hacking was amazing etc but that bit too far out of the way for me through the lanes.

Stocklands looks fab but being right over the other side of Cardiff may prove a problem, although I could end up working anywhere in Cardiff, so inclined to ring for details & see if I can have a look to keep my options open. Could work out fine with work but just thinking of weekends travelling. Currently on a yard of 30 odd which in my mind is big so not bothered by that.

Currently living by Tredegar House Newport so easy enough to hop on M4.

Apart from the massive waiting list, walked down onto the yard a few months ago to ask for the y/o who we phoned in advanced, got pounced on by a very upfront woman on the defensive who insisted on showing us around herself lol, never got to the owner! Is it good there? I know its changed hands since my friend was there who left ages ago.

Half of me wants to chance it with white barn, just the security really bothers me & lugging my saddle home. Struck me how friendly everyone was!

If you pop up to Countrywide in Wenvoe, there's usually livery ads on the board there. That area (St Andrew's Major / Dinas Powys / Wenvoe) is only 5-6 miles from Cardiff, there's some nice little yards with good hacking :)

Fab thankyou! Will go on the weekend for a look - being from this way only ever been to Countrywide in Chepstow & Raglan lol. Furthest I go is Pritchards :oD

I'm at White Barn! :) and I must say it is a lovely yard, although a 20min drive from me in Caerphilly! I have also been to GreenYard in Rudry, and Graig (sp?) Park Farm in Lisvane :)

All I'll say is that White barn is lovely, The gate is locked every night, and we all have access to a locked tack shed (there are a few different ones) that you can use. I have seen a few people leave tack in them, but I wouldn't advise it anywhere TBH.

There is a lovely lady that lives on-site to keep an eye on things too. - we also have free use of the cross country course ;)

If you want details on the others then it's best to PM me, as I obviously moved off those yards, but I still don't have anything too Horrid to say about either.

Good luck!

i am also looking for a secure livery yard but more in the area of abertridwr, caerphilly area, i know of S.B EC, wenallt, all the usuals in lisvane as i have had had my horses in alot of the livery yards in and around cardiff but am looking for somewhere closer to abertridwr what is white barn like? prices for part livery? facilities etc, and how far is it from caerphilly.
many thanks
